In todays podcast, we’re diving into something deeply personal yet universally powerful: listening to your inner voice.
Whether you’re leading a business, managing a team, or navigating your career, you’ve probably heard the advice to "trust your instincts."
But what does that really mean?
And how can you hear your inner voice when the world is so loud?
The pressures of decision-making can feel overwhelming, and when things don’t go as planned, it’s easy to feel stuck.
But what if that stuckness is actually a signal—a moment where your inner voice is urging you to pause and reflect?
In this episode, we’ll explore the science behind listening to your inner voice, how it can change your life, and why it’s crucial to your leadership and business success,
I’ll also share a real-life example from one of my clients to illustrate how powerful this process can be and I will leave you with some suggested action steps you can practise to merge this voice into your daily life .
So, grab a coffee, get comfortable, and let’s dive in."
When we think of leaders, we often imagine decisive, confident people who move forward quickly. But here’s the truth: even the best leaders face moments of uncertainty, times when the noise of expectations and opinions drowns out their inner guidance.
Without that connection to your inner voice, it’s easy to fall into patterns—chasing goals or sticking to routines that don’t truly align with who you are.
Listening to your inner voice means tuning out the external noise and reconnecting with your purpose and intuition.
For us, this isn’t just helpful—it’s essential.
As a leader, you’re expected to have the answers. To stay in control. This constant need to be 'on' can drown out your inner voice, because when the stakes are high, uncertainty feels dangerous.
But here’s the thing: uncertainty isn’t a dangerous or a weakness—it’s an invitation to go deeper.
Every day, we make countless decisions, often relying on data, logic, and advice. While these tools are critical, they can’t replace our inner knowing, listening to this voice can be the difference between burnout and fulfillment,
between chasing success and finding meaningful achievement.
We sometimes silence our inner voice because we fear it will take us in an unconventional direction, but that’s where authentic leadership begins.
True leadership happens when you lean into those quiet, intuitive whispers—even when they challenge the norm. That’s when you move from simply making decisions to creating meaningful impact.
Let me share a story about Mark (by the way its not his real name),
this example highlights the transformative power of aligning external insights with inner guidance. Mark came to me after twenty years in the corporate world, where he had thrived in a structured environment. Decisions were clear, data-driven, and validated by measurable outcomes. But when he decided to leave that world and start his own business, he quickly found himself in unfamiliar territory.
Midway through building his business, Mark hit a wall.
It wasn’t just a small obstacle—it was a kind of stuckness that feels like being trapped in quicksand.
Every effort to push forward only deepened his frustration. And when you’ve already invested so much time, energy, and money, that kind of pressure can feel overwhelming.
This is where I stepped in to guide the process. Instead of focusing on the immediate business challenge, I helped Mark pause and shift his perspective.
We explored what this stuckness was really telling him.
Together, we uncovered that starting a business was a completely different experience from his corporate career. Without the familiar structures and feedback loops he was used to,
Mark now faced the unfamiliar: space to reflect and listen to his own inner voice.
At first, this felt uncomfortable for Mark.
He was so accustomed to external validation that relying on gut feelings or intuitive guidance felt foreign.
So, I guided him step by step, helping him recognize and trust his inner voice.
We used reflective exercises, open conversations, and moments of quiet to create clarity.
But I also encouraged Mark to seek balance by leveraging his network.
I suggested he reach out to trusted people who had experience navigating similar challenges—former colleagues, mentors, and friends.
Mark approached these conversations with curiosity, asking open-ended questions like, “What was most valuable for you at this stage?”
and
“What unexpected lessons did you learn?”
These conversations became an important complement to the inner work we were doing.
I helped Mark weave these external insights with his growing inner clarity.
One pivotal moment came when we looked closely at his sales strategy.
Mark realized, through our conversations, that the approach he had initially planned felt misaligned with his values and vision.
Encouraged by both advice from a mentor and the inner confidence he was building, we redesigned his sales strategy together—this time in a way that felt truly authentic to him.
Once this alignment was in place, everything started to flow.
He approached the remaining steps of his business plan with renewed clarity and confidence.
The stuckness he had experienced wasn’t just a barrier; it was a signpost pointing toward something deeper that needed attention.
The process of guiding him through this wasn’t about giving him the answers—it was about helping him uncover them for himself.
By pausing, reflecting, and integrating insights from both his inner voice and trusted advisors,
Mark transformed how he approached challenges.
The result?
A business plan that wasn’t just completed but felt deeply aligned with who he was and what he wanted to create.
The frustration and overwhelm gave way to clarity and momentum.
This example shows us that success isn’t just about solving problems—
it’s about evolving how you approach them.
By blending inner guidance with external wisdom, and having someone to guide the process, you can move through uncertainty with confidence and authenticity.
"We often talk about intuition or the ‘inner voice’ like it’s something mysterious, almost mystical.
But the reality is, there’s a lot of science to back up this idea of inner knowing.
Dr. Joe Dispenza, a leader in neuroscience and personal transformation, has done extensive work on how the brain and body connect when we quiet the mind and create space for stillness.
I have recently read his books; Evolve your brain and Breaking the habit of being yourself.
Dispenza explains that when you’re constantly in a state of stress—
something most leaders can relate to—
you’re stuck in a survival mode where the brain operates from familiar patterns.
It’s like running on autopilot, relying only on past experiences and external inputs.
But when you intentionally create space for stillness, you activate different parts of your brain, specifically the frontal lobe, which is the creative and higher-thinking part of your brain.
This is where the magic happens—where your intuition lives.
So, when we talk about listening to your inner voice, it’s not just about trusting a gut feeling; it’s about shifting your brain out of stress mode and into a more creative, problem-solving state.
We are people first, and just like anyone, our brain needs time to recalibrate and connect with deeper wisdom."
"So, why is this process so transformative?
Because it allows you to live and lead authentically.
When you listen to your inner voice:
• You make aligned decisions. Instead of following external expectations, you follow what feels true to you.
• You reduce stress.
You stop fighting against the current and start flowing with what feels right.
• You unlock creativity.
By stepping out of survival mode, you access new ideas and possibilities that were previously hidden.
But the biggest change is this:
You start living a life that feels meaningful. It’s not just about achieving goals; it’s about creating a life and business that reflect who you truly are."
"Now, let’s get practical.
How do you actually start listening to your inner voice?
Here are three simple steps that you can begin with:
1. Create Space for Stillness.
Your inner voice won’t compete with the noise of your day.
Set aside 10-15 minutes a day to sit quietly.
This could be through meditation, journaling, or simply being present without distractions.
2. Ask Yourself the Right Questions.
like: 'What is this stuckness trying to tell me?' or
'Does this decision align with my values?' these types of questions help you connect with deeper insights.
The key is to listen without judgment. And don’t rush it, when we are tapping into something we haven’t don’t before it can require a little patience to allow it to show up.
3. Trust the Process.
When your inner voice speaks, it may not make immediate sense. Trust it anyway.
Like a compass, it’s guiding you in the right direction, even if you don’t see the full map yet."
"Listening to your inner voice isn’t just about business or leadership—it’s about creating a life that feels aligned and authentic.
So, ask yourself:
Are you ready to pause and listen?
Are you ready to step out of survival mode and into creation mode?
If you’ve been feeling stuck or unsure, maybe this is the moment to trust your inner guide.
Thank you for joining me. If this episode resonated with you, I encourage you to take just 10 minutes this week to create stillness and ask your inner voice what it’s trying to tell you.
